Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Concrete Hand / Groundworker to lead and assist in foundation works, slab pouring, steel fixing, and drainage installations. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in concrete finishing, setting out, and supervising junior labourers, ensuring high-quality workmanship while maintaining strict health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

✔ Concrete Work (Advanced):

• Lead pouring, levelling, and finishing concrete for foundations, slabs, and structural elements.
• Expert use of power screeds, trowels, and vibrating equipment for smooth finishes.
• Monitor concrete curing and take corrective action to prevent cracks or defects.

✔ Steel Fixing & Formwork:

• Set out and install rebar (bending, tying, spacing) to engineering specs.
• Build and check formwork for accuracy before pours.
• Supervise junior staff in reinforcement tasks.

✔ Drainage & Groundworks:

• Install and test drainage systems (pipes, gullies, inspection chambers).
• Set gradients and falls for proper water runoff.
• Oversee excavation, backfilling, and compaction around foundations.

✔ Leadership & Supervision:

• Guide junior labourers in best practices for concrete work.
• Liaise with site managers to ensure work meets project timelines.
• Quality control checks on finished work.

✔ Health & Safety:

• Enforce site safety protocols (PPE, barriers, safe lifting).
• Report hazards and ensure method statements are followed.

Essential Requirements:

Must Have:

• Valid CSCS Card (Blue/Skilled Worker or Gold/Supervisor preferred).
• 5+ years’ experience in concrete finishing, groundworks, or foundations.
• Expertise in reading construction drawings and setting out.
• Strong knowledge of concrete mixes, curing, and reinforcement.
• Own reliable transport (sites vary; must be punctual).
• Physically fit – heavy lifting, kneeling, working in all weather.

Highly Desirable:

• NVQ Level 2+ in Concrete Occupations or Groundworks.
• CPCS/NPORS ticket for plant machinery (e.g., dumper, excavator).
• First Aid or SSSTS certification (advantageous).
• Experience with laser levels and basic surveying.
